Chama resident Henrietta “Keta” L. Mascarenas, 80, passed away May 30, 2014 at Sangre De Cristo Hospice in Pueblo, Colorado with her loving son, Christopher, by her side. Keta was born on January 16, 1934 in Chama, Colorado, the daughter of Emilio Lobato and Enriqueta Choury. She was a member of the Carmelitas and a member of the Sacred Heart Society. Keta was a wonderful mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend who enjoyed embroidery, crossword puzzles, the Denver Nuggets, eating sweets, making jelly, canning and above all, praying and spending time with her family.
Survivors include her daughters Marian (Carl) Jaquez of Chama, CO and Henrietta (Paul) Balderamos of Santa Fe, NM; son Christopher Mascarenas of Chama, CO; grandchildren Brianna Jaquez (Robert Hayes), Angelo Hayes, Rachael Hayes, Carlos Jaquez ( Davina Ward), Julie Jaquez (Brad Sosusco), Grace Balderamos, Paul Balderamos, Philip Balderamos, and Adrian Balderamos; son James Mascarenas and family of Chama, CO; sisters Anna Chavez of Dayton, OH; and Tillie Martinez of Denver, CO; and brothers Emilio (Dora) Lobato of San Pablo, CO and Eugene (Josie) Lobato of Westminster, CO. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Henrietta was preceded in death by her parents Emilio and Enriqueta Lobato, her husband James Mascarenas, sisters Bessie Albert and Ella Keller, and brothers Henry Lobato, Louis Lobato, and Raymond Lobato.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Thursday, June 5, 2014 at 7:00 P.M. at the Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church in San Luis, CO. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Friday, June 6, 2014 at 10:00 AM at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Chama, CO. Interment will follow at the Chama Cemetery in Chama, Colorado. Romero Funeral Chapel of San Luis is in care of the arrangements.
