ALAMOSA – The Alamosa High School girls soccer team wrapped up the Intermountain League championship on Friday as it defeated Montezuma-Cortez 1-0 at the AHS stadium.

“I’m super excited,” said Alamosa coach Kelly Wubben. “Our girls came out and played so hard today. I’m super proud of them.”

The defenses dominated the entire first half which was scoreless. The Lady Mean Moose had four shots on goal in the half, compared to two for the Lady Panthers.

Jayden Wubben accounted for the game’s only goal as she took a pass from Lexany Heredia and put the ball into the upper right-hand corner of the net in the game’s 55th minute.

Cortez put on the pressure after that in an attempt to tie the score. It had six shots on goal in the half, but all of the shots were saved by Emmy Tibbitts.

The Lady Panthers did have more shots on goal in the game with eight, edging the Lady Mean Moose which had seven shots on goal.

Tibbitts had a total of eight saves.

Cortez also had six corner kicks, all in the second half, and Alamosa had two.

Alamosa now has a record of seven wins, five losses and a draw. All of the Lady Mean Moose’s wins this season were all by shutout with Tibbitts accounting for six of them.

“We are getting the ball out and they’re doing exactly what we’re asking them to,” coach Wubben said. “They’re playing some really good soccer right now.”

In league play, the Lady Mean Moose finished with four wins, one loss and one tie. Against league teams, Alamosa scored 10 goals and allowed only two.

Alamosa will wrap up the regular season with two non-league home games this coming week. On Thursday, it will host Lake County at 4:30 p.m., and on Saturday it will host Florence at 11 a.m.
