ALAMOSA — Youth playing with matches were the apparent cause of a house fire in northwestern Alamosa yesterday evening.

“It was unfortunate. It didn’t have to happen,” said Assistant Alamosa Fire Chief Tony Bobicki.

He said the fire, which began about 5 p.m. on Monday, started with some youth in the age range of about 10 years old burning a bush in the front yard at 2405 Park Avenue in Alamosa. Under such dry conditions, the fire spread quickly to the house and went up the inside of the wall, Bobicki said, and then into the ceiling and rafters of the home.
