We've all heard that money can't buy happiness, but a TED talk by Michael Norton showed that you can change that statement and make it true by having it read “Money can buy happiness if you spend it correctly.”
The studies have shown that winners of the lottery almost always are less happy following their winning than before, because they have many of their friends and acquaintances pester them for money. To many of these people their prior relationship to the winner changes from one of friendship to one of wanting to “share the wealth.”
