La Jara – Longtime Sanford resident Lois Jean Mayfield Crowther, 80, passed away on August 30, 2013 at the San Luis Valley Health Conejos County Hospital.
She was born on October 14, 1932 in La Jara, Colorado to John Henry Mayfield and Florence Kidd Mayfield. Lois was married and sealed to Everet Crowther on September 6, 1949 at the Manti Temple. That same day they were also sealed for time and eternity to her parents. She had a talent for oil painting and enjoyed painting when she had the time. She also enjoyed quilting, gardening, canning and cooking. She enjoyed sports and loved to play games with her family. Most of all, she loved spending time with her grandchildren and children. Lois was very active in the L.D.S. Church and held many callings. She was the Relief Society President, Young Women’s President, active in the Primary, and served a mission in Seeley Lake, Montana with Everet.
Lois is survived by her husband Everet Crowther of Sanford, her children; Dale Crowther of Sanford, Sharon (Terry) DePriest of Manassa, Rick (Jill) Crowther of Brigham City, Utah, Trish (Steve) Maes of Carlsbad, California, Garth (Tracey) Crowther of Bountiful, Tom (Mickie) Crowther of Centralia, Kansas, Shawn (Kandice) Crowther of Yokosuka, Japan and Corey (Amy) Crowther of Sanford, 31 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren as well as her sister Connie Mayfield of La Jara as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Sam Mayfield, her sister Shirley Davis, one grandson and one daughter in law.
A funeral service will be held on at 11:00 AM on Tuesday September 3, 2013 at the Sanford 1st Ward of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. A visitation will be held from 6:30 pm-9:00 pm Monday September 2, 2013 at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Manassa and from 10:00 am- 10:45 am prior to the service on Tuesday in the Sanford Relief Society room at the church. Burial will follow in the Sanford Cemetery.
