Patricia Swift (Trish), 76, passed away unexpectedly on June 20, 2013 at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Lakewood, CO. Beloved mother and grandma, she was born on May 10, 1937 in New York City, N.Y. Trish spent her early years near the east coast, receiving her nursing degree from Lenox Hill Hospital School of Nursing in NYC in 1958. Later that year she married Warren Swift in Dumont, N.J. Her fondest memories during these years were her summers spent on the Jersey shore. She later settled in the suburbs of Chicago where she enjoyed many years raising 4 children and spending time with her grandchildren. She made many lifelong friends there, and will be remembered as a talented artist with beautiful gardens, a free spirit and the ability to always make you laugh. She moved to the San Luis Valley in Colorado in 2004, where she spent her last years enjoying the beauty of this special place and especially her time with grandchildren Madison Patricia and Gus.
She was a beautiful woman full of life and love, and her kindness and generosity of spirit touched many lives. She knew no strangers and had a gift for making everyone feel extraordinary. Her loss will be deeply felt by all who knew her.
She loved spending time with her family, travelling, gardening, crafting (especially with the Crafty Chicks), photography, nature and her beautiful home up the Alamosa Canyon. It gave her great joy and pride to see her photography on a website (fineartamerica.com; Patricia Swift).
She is survived by daughter Laura Nelson (Steve, Sugar Grove, IL); son Andrew (Carlene, Elburn, IL); daughter Margie (Plainfield, IL); daughter Sue Swift-Miller (Scott, Capulin, CO); grandchildren Brandon and Brittany Nelson, Matthew and Joseph Swift, and Madison and Gus Miller; sister Margaret Low (Robert); first husband Warren (Dolores), brother-in-law John Swift (Nancy), and many nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her parents George and Martha Healy, and second husband Frank Blanek.
A Celebration of Life open house will be held in Trish’s honor on July 13, 2013 from 11 a.m. -1 p.m., at 2630 FDR 255, Capulin, 1.5 miles below Terrace Reservoir in the Alamosa Canyon. A short, outdoor memorial service will be held at 11:15 a.m., followed by a luncheon. In lieu of flowers, the family wishes donations to be made to Starfish Animal Rescue (www.starfishanimalrescue.com; PO Box 1355, Plainfield IL 60544), daughter Margie’s animal rescue organization, a cause Trish believed deeply in, or a charity of your choice. Cards may be sent to the Swift Family, P.O. Box 219, Capulin, CO 81124.
Trish’s family would like to thank the nurses, doctors and staff at St. Anthony’s for their compassionate care of Trish, and the many friends who provided prayers, support and assistance during this sad time.
