DEL NORTE — Irene “Rene” May Hutchinson, 98, of Del Norte, Colorado went to be with her Lord on January 18, 2013.
She was born in Del Norte, CO on May 26, 1914 to John and Maude Duncan. She married her childhood sweetheart John “Lee” Hutchinson on March 16th 1936. Lee and Rene lived in Del Norte, Durango, and Denver. She returned to Del Norte in 1979.
She was a devoted wife, loving mother and grandmother. She cherished spending time with her family and friends, and enjoyed her volunteer work at her church. Her finest virtue was her sincerity and genuine concern when she asked “How are you doing?”
Rene was a member of P.E.O., Twin Mountain Ladies Aide and Pioneer United Church.
She enjoyed traveling, playing bridge, crossword puzzles and frustrated many people in a good game of scrabble. Rene played the piano most of her life and was an excellent musician. She would delight her audience with her personal renditions of ragtime and big band tunes. Even in her later years, she loved to slowly move up to a piano with her walker and create excitement and dazzle her listeners with her jazzy arrangement of “Tiger Rag” or “Five Foot Two.”
Rene had a love of baseball and was a stalwart “Rockies” fan. She rarely missed watching a game. She was a woman blessed with beauty, talent, love, genuine concern for her dear friends, generous and quick-witted sense of humor, which provided cherished memories throughout the years that were filled with laughter.
Irene is survived by her sons; John M. Hutchinson of Del Norte, CO; Gary L. Hutchinson of Castle Rock, CO; her sibling Dean Duncan of Aztec, New Mexico; sister-in-law Betty Tripp; 6 grandchildren – Peter (Robin), Hal (Robin), Ned (Liz), Michael, Bryan, Katie; 8 great-grandchildren – Jonah, Lilly, Quinn, Lucy, Eliot, Finley, Henry, and Sammy; and several nieces and nephews.
