Dale A. Dickerson, 88

BUENA VISTA — Buena Vista resident Dale A. Dickerson, 88, passed away December 5, 2012 at the San Luis Valley Regional Medical Center in Alamosa.

He was born on September 15, 1924 in Olathe, Colorado to Joel and Ruth Hogan Dickerson. Dale was raised on a fishing resort near Gunnison, Colorado. He assisted his mother in managing the resort before and after he served in the US Army during WWII (April 1945-December 1946). He married his wife of more than 56 years, Elree Brown Dickerson on June 9, 1952 in Aztec, New Mexico. After moving to South Park, Colorado, Dale worked on ranches, and then operated a service station and mechanic service. They moved to Center, Colorado for a year then chose their permanent residence in Buena Vista, Colorado. Initially they ran a service station and mechanic service in Johnson Village, and then worked for the school district as a bus mechanic and driver.

After retiring, Dale loved to travel the United States with his wife in their motor home. His favorite hobbies were hunting, camping, fishing and hand crafting wood and metal objects. Dale was a faithful member of Mountain Heights Baptist Church where he served as Church Deacon and on numerous church committees including the Building Committee.

Dale was preceded in death by his wife Elree Dickerson, infant son Lyndon Dickerson, his parents Joel and Ruth Dickerson, and his only brother Clanton Dickerson.

He is survived by his children Daleyne (Steve) Carpenter of Bend, Oregon, Dean (Gwyn) Dickerson of Blanca, Colorado and Zola Dickerson of Bend, Oregon; his grandchildren Anthony Blake, Kylia Blake, J’Leyne Rubbert, Marlin Dickerson, Ryan (Crystal) Dickerson and Travis (Lena) Dickerson; his great-grandchildren Jacob and Lilly Dickerson, Allison and Mason Blake, Tanner and K’Dance Sutherland; as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members.

Well done thy good and faithful servant.

Cremation was chosen and a Memorial Service will be announced at a later date. Contributions in his memory are suggested to the Mountain Heights Baptist Church, P.O. Box 786, Buena Vista, Colo. 81211.
