MONTE VISTA — The Fort Lewis College Department of Music hosted the annual Select Band Clinic on campus Feb. 6-7, an event which brought 193 band students from 16 high schools from Colorado, New Mexico, and Utah, and from seven middle schools.

Area band directors recommended their musicians for inclusion in this event.

To be placed into the top Select Wind Ensemble, a musician submitted an audition CD.

During the two days the students had an intense schedule of rehearsals, concerts, and then a performance on Saturday. Guest conductor Stephen Melillo worked with the high school Select Wind. Fort Lewis College faculty member Dr. Mark Walters conducted the high school Select Symphonic Band.

Students performing in the Select Symphonic Band were Melissa Barnes flute, Corey Becker-Dye tuba, Luke Condon alto saxophone, Josh Garcia contra alto clarinet, Brooke Johnson clarinet, Wilie Keller euphonium, Ryan Reinhhardt trombone, Matthew Salazar euphonium, and Lucus Torres baritone saxophone. Performing in the Select Wind Ensemble was Kayla R. Wartman on the contra alto clarinet. Special recognition goes to Shon Heersink who is the director of the Monte Vista Bands.
