Tony Plata Valdez

Tony Plata Valdez, 86, passed away April 20, 2023 at Evergreen Nursing Home in Alamosa, CO.

 

He was born in Monterrey, Nuevo Le’on, Old Mexico on January 17, 1936 to Arturo and Herlinda Valdez.

 

He attended and graduated from High School and went on to obtain an Accounting Degree all in Monterrey, Nuevo Le’on, Old Mexico.

 

Tony had the traveler spirit in him and enjoyed seeing new places. He explored many U.S. states through working seasonal crops in his early years.

 

He met the love of his life, Margaret Romero and they married in Alamosa, CO. Their union of 50 years produced 7 children.

 

Tony worked for Coca-Cola for many years and was in charge of 3 areas; Monte Vista, South Fork, and Lake City. He became involved with the Knights of Columbus and was a Mason, 32nd degree.

 

Becoming an American was important and he had dual citizenship.

 

Tony was an excellent cook and could make a tasty meal from few ingredients. BBQ was a passion of his and there were many outings to the mountains where all enjoyed Tony’s fabulous BBQ.

 

He made his dream a reality when he opened The Monterrey Café. He was truly living the American dream for 25 years. His signature dishes were chorizo and eggs and his green chili. All recipes from his mother. He also enjoyed his cars.

 

Tony was a hardworking man. He installed his strong work ethic in all his children.

 

He was preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Herlinda Valdez, brothers Raymundo, Juan and Jose (PePe’) Valdez. Beloved wife Margaret, son Edward, daughter Kathy and a stillborn daughter.

 

Tony is survived by his sister Maria Elena Valdez and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. His daughter Monica Valdez, son Mark Valdez, Tracey (Max) Gallegos, son Chris Valdez.

 

 Grandchildren Candace (Benny) Reeder, Michael Lopez Cash, Xavier and Bella Margaret Gallegos, Bethany and Brieanna Valdez, Dadryn and Rylyn Valdez. Great grandchildren Nalaya and Zemorah Reeder.
