Tony P. Valdez

Tony P. Valdez, 77, passed away April 20, 2023, in Alamosa, Colo. He was born in Monterrey, Mexico, on Jan. 17, 1936, the son of Arturo and Herlinda Valdez.

He grew up in Monterrey, Mexico, and graduated from Escuela Mercontic De Monterrey in 1953. He married Margaret Romero on Oct. 7, 1959. From that union they brought five children into the world, Edward, Monica, Mark, Christian and Tracey.

He worked for Coca-Cola for 25 years before he decided to move back to Monterrey, Mexico with his wife for a few years.

Tony moved back to Alamosa, Colo., and he and his son Chris then opened the Monterrey Cafe in 1991. He was a member of the Free Masons Alamosa Lodge 44 and Shriners, Elks and Knights of Columbus. He will be remembered mostly for always having brand new, fancy cars and always being at the Monterrey Cafe; rain or shine. Tony also enjoyed spending his time with his sin Chris and his grandchildren D'Adryn and Rylyn.

Tony was preceded in death by his parents Arturo and Herlinda Valdez, loving wife Margaret, son Edward, brothers Raymundo, Juan and Pepe Valdez.

Survivors include his sister Nenla Ramirez of Monterrey, Mexico, son Chris Valdez (Juanita) of Alamosa, Colo.; Mark Valdez of Fountain, Colo.; daughters Monica Valdez of Utah, Tracey Gallegos (Max) of Fountain, Colo.; grandchildren D'Adryn and Rylyn Valdez, Candace Reeder, Michael Lopez, Cash, Xavier, Bella Gallegos, Bethany and Brianna Valdez.

Cremation was chosen and a Vigil Service will be held on Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at 9:30 a.m. with Memorial Mass to follow at 10 a.m. both at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa.

Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa has been entrusted with the care of arrangements.
