Sanford boys defeat Simla

LOVELAND – The seventh-ranked Sanford High School boys basketball team advanced to the Class 2A State Tournament semifinals on Thursday as they defeated second-ranked Simla 53-33 at the Budweiser Event Center.

The Mustangs took an 8-6 lead after the first quarter. The extended the lead to 20-12 at halftime and to 34-19 after the third quarter.

Individual statistics were unavailable.

Sanford (17-8) will face Limon today at 5:30 p.m.

Burlington 39, Del Norte 20

The sixth-ranked Del Norte High School girls basketball team was defeated in the Class 2A State Tournament quarterfinal round by third-ranked Burlington 39-20 Thursday at the Budweiser Event Center.

No other game details were available.

Del Norte (19-6) drops into the consolation bracket where it will play the seventh-seeded Rangely today at 11:45 a.m.

Should the Lady Tigers win they will play either ninth-seeded Wiggins or 13th-seeded Limon in the fifth-place game. That game will be played Saturday at 4 p.m. at the University of Northern Colorado’s Bank of Colorado Center.

A loss today will end the season.
