Saguache mayor resigns; town remains divided

SAGUACHE — In an e-mail delivered Thursday afternoon, Saguache Mayor Greg Terrell resigned his post as mayor after being requested by several citizens to tender his resignation, and begged by others to remain in his position. The following are excerpts form his letter of resignation.

"I am resigning as mayor and from all town boards and committees effective immediately today. The reason is two-fold. First, the erosion of a lawful and mindful environment in the past several months has waned my enthusiasm for serving with the needed effort, work, and time required. Secondly, and most importantly, is for personal reasons...

"The time, effort, and stress spent as mayor has steadily and increasingly robbed me of my personal time for myself, family, and friends. I freely choose my well being at this time. I wish the town board and town staff good and productive times ahead...

"I have served on the Town Board for five and a half years. I have done this to solve problems and to work on town projects, both needed and desired. The primary purpose for my serving on the board and as mayor has been to this end, the betterment of the town of Saguache. There are several needed projects on solid footing, but unfinished at this time. I sincerely hope that these projects continue to proceed, as the alternative would have dire consequences for the town and its citizens...It is with regret that I will not be contributing towards this end directly."
