Mary Virginia Griego-Quirico

ALAMOSA — Longtime Alamosa resident Mary Virginia Griego-Quirico, 78, passed away on Dec. 11, 2019 at the San Luis Care Center.

She was born on April 27, 1941 in Hernandez, N.M., to Elias and Valentina (Sanchez) Griego.

She was a longtime owner of the Mexico Cafe on State Street in Alamosa.

After selling the restaurant, she moved to Las Vegas, Nev., and was employed by the El Cortez Casino for many years.

Upon retiring, she returned to Alamosa to be with her family.

Mary was very faithful to her patron Saint Anthony, loved playing Bingo, listening to Mexican music, keeping up on current events and watching the news.

She especially treasured the time spent with her family and grandkids, as well as the many friendships she made with the staff and residents of the San Luis Valley Care Center in Alamosa.

Mary is survived by her son Orlando “Joe” (Donna) Griego; her siblings, Jessie Griego, Robert (the late Joyce) Griego, Charles (Janice) Griego and Eddie (Loretta) Griego all of Alamosa, as well as numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son Anthony “Tony” Griego; as well as her siblings, Sophia Martinez, Elias Griego, Jr., Cornelio Griego, Pete Griego, Danny Griego, Frankie Griego, Gloria Griego and Valentino Griego, Sr.

Cremation was chosen and a private family service will be held. Contributions in her memory are suggested to the San Luis Care Center and may be made in care of the funeral home office.
