Mary Ann Velasquez

Lakewood, CO – Mary Ann Velasquez, a long-time resident of Lakewood, CO, died Sunday, May 28th, 2017 at the Gardens on Quail Assisted Living in Arvada, CO.

Born in 1931 in Gloucester, Massachusetts, Mary Ann received a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from Mount St. Mary’s College in New Hampshire. After college she joined the US Air Force and achieved the rank of 1st Lieutenant as a flight nurse during the Korean conflict.

She met her future husband, 1st LT Herman H. Velasquez, while stationed in Wichita Falls, Texas. They married in 1956. After military service, Mary Ann moved frequently while Mr. Velasquez worked for the US General Accounting Office and was stationed around the country and in Germany. They eventually settled in Denver and raised two sons. Mary Ann enjoyed many pursuits such as travel, floral design, volunteering, gardening, and she was a talented artist.

Mary Ann is survived by her sons, Andrew (Ann Marie) Velasquez, Antonito, CO and Martin Velasquez, Lakewood, CO; grandsons, Tony (Cynthia) Velasquez, Westminster, CO and Gabriel Velasquez, Boulder, CO; sisters Julie (Fred) O’Dea, Margaret Zdan, and Nina Millifollie.

Mary Ann is predeceased by her husband, Herman H. Velasquez (1990), parents Benedetto Randazza and Margaret (Favazza) Randazza of Gloucester, MA, brothers John and Joe Randazza and sister Grace Murdock.

Cremation was chosen and a private celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
