Leona Edwards

MONTE VISTA— Leona Edwards, 88, went to be with her Lord and Savior on July 22, 2019.

She was born Feb. 3, 1931 to Harry and Esther DeFreece. Leona grew up in the Sargent area and graduated from Sargent High School in 1949.

She married Jim Edwards on Jan. 14, 1950. She was a homemaker, enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, and many other crafts. She also worked at the Monte Vista Livestock Auction (sale barn) for many years, as well as driving a potato truck for the Shriver family. She was active in her church and many other organizations.

She and Jim were always supportive of their children and grandchildren and attended many of their activities.

Leona is survived by four children, Kent (Wendy) Edwards, Grand Junction; Cliff (Theresa) Edwards, Monte Vista; Annavee (David) Hinkley, Monte Vista and Carol (Joe) Pelz, Eaton., and her grandchildren Dakota (Chris) Hoffmann-Larimore, Payson Edwards, Matthew (Crystal Canterbury) Hinkley, Branden (Tia) Edwards, Craton (Hannah) Edwards, Shannon (Nate) Givens, Jessica (Chad) Ruff. She had nine great-grandchildren that she adored. She is also survived by her brother Robert (Harriet) DeFreece, sister Ann Burkhart and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Esther DeFreece, her loving husband of 63 years, Jim Edwards, and her granddaughter Sgt. Faith Hinkley.

She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends. Cremation was chosen and services will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the First Christian Church in Monte Vista or Hospice Del Valle.
