Juana Diego Nicolas

Alamosa resident Juana Diego Nicolas, 60, was called home to her heavenly father April 26, 2023, in New Mexico.

Juana was born in Santa Eulalia, Huehuetenango, Guatemala on Jan. 21, 1963, the daughter of Gaspar Diego and Lucia Nicolas Lucas. She married Francisco Juan Felipe and he survives in the family home.

Juana worked for many years at the Rakhra Mushroom Farm, owned and operated her own retail store Tienda y Comida Guatemala Shalom, which she was very proud of and worked at Burger King, part time, in Alamosa.  She was a hard worker and enjoyed spending time with her family, she also loved her grandchildren and was always telling jokes.  Juana always had time to make people feel loved and special.  She always used kind words, such as “mi ami”, “Chula”, “mija”, “mijo”, “baby boy” and “baby girl”.  She also enjoyed gardening, the casino and tending to her new chicken.  Juana was always on to new adventures that kept her busy.  She loved receiving flowers, because it made her feel special.

She is survived by her husband Francisco of Alamosa; her children: Ana Gaspar (Enrique Lucas), Isabela Gaspar and Oscar Gaspar, her grandchildren, Juan Gaspar, Angel Gaspar, Francisco Gaspar, Araseli Gaspar, Leonardo Gaspar and Mateo Gaspar, her siblings; Jesus Gaspar (Eulalia Pascual) of Alamosa, Jose Gaspar Lucas (Maria Diego Domingo) of Denver, Mateo Gaspar of Denver, Odilia Nicolas of Denver, Lucia Nicolas of Denver Maria Gaspar of Guatemala, Daniel Nicolas of Denver and numerous nieces and nephews.

Juana was preceded in death by her mother Lucia Nicolas, her father Gaspar Diego Lorenzo, her son, Ricardo Gaspar and her brothers Pedro Francisco and Nicolas Gaspar.

A Visitation will be held at the Rogers Family Mortuary in Alamosa from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, May 11, 2023. A Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 9:30 a.m. on Friday, May 12, 2023, followed by a Funeral Mass of Chirstian Burial at 10 a.m., both at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. Interment will follow services in the Alamosa Cemetery.
