Jose “Rafa” Rafael Ramirez-Mendoza

ALAMOSA — Alamosa resident Jose “Rafa” Rafael Ramirez-Mendoza, 50, went to his eternal rest on Sept. 27, 2019. Jose was welcomed into the world on May 7, 1969 in Mexico, the son of Jose Ramirez and Felipa Mendoza Ramirez. Rafa was united in marriage to Brenda Barela on Oct. 27, 2014. A loving son, husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin and friend who enjoyed soccer, going fishing, hunting, going gambling and spending time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his mother, Felipa Mendoza of Juarez, Mexico; wife, Brenda Ramirez of Alamosa; daughters, Desi Ramirez, Carolina Ramirez and Susie Ramirez all of California; son, Angel Ramirez of California; step-daughter, Melissa Martinez (Samuel Duran) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; step-son, Adam Martinez (Stephanie Trujillo) of Antonito, Colo.; grandchildren, Jacob and Jalyssa Duran of Colorado Springs, Aubrieanna Lopez of Alamosa and Caydence Martinez of Red Cliff, Colo.; brothers, Javier (Maricella) Ramirez, Jose Luis (Patricia) Ramirez, Jesus Ramirez, Castello (Liboria) Ramirez, Ricardo (Maribel) Ramirez, Miguel (Marisela) Ramirez, Manuel (Maria) Ramirez and Juan (Martha) Ramirez, all of Juarez, Mexico; sisters, Martha (Jose) Pinedo, Antonia Ramirez and Guadalupe (Jose) Torrez, all of Juarez, Mexico. He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Rafa was preceded in death by his father, Jose Ramirez; brother Salvador Ramirez; and father-in-law, Robert A. Barela.

Viewing and visitation will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 from 1-4 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Friday, Oct. 4, 2019 at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2019 at 11 a.m. also at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the La Jara Cemetery. To express online condolences please visit romerofuneralhomes.com.
