Dorothy Mora

Long-time Alamosa resident Dorothy Mora, went to her heavenly home Saturday, May 13, 2023. Dorothy was born July 8, 1926, in Grand Junction, Colo., to Tony Garcia and Genevieve Santisteven Garcia. Dorothy married Joe Paul Mora in Santa Fe, N.M., on Sept. 15, 1945, where she grew up. They were married 74 years before Joe’s passing in 2020.

Prior to her marriage, Dorothy became a lab tech in Colorado Springs. Dorothy worked at the local hospital and retired as office nurse for Dr. L. Bunch.

Dorothy was involved in several organizations in Alamosa. She enjoyed crafts, sewing, reading, camping, and volunteered as “gray lady” at the local hospital. She was also happy to care for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of River of Life Church for over 60 years.

Dorothy’s greatest love was for her family. Dorothy’s memories and traditions will live on with her children, Larry Mora, Kenneth and Carmen Mora, Jacque and Jim Trujillo, Chris and Rhoda Mora, Patrick and Johnnie Mora; grandchildren; Raquel Buser, Naomi and Chris Benson, Chuck Mora, Nikki and Larry Atencio, Desirae Mora, Rosalie and Rick Sandoval, Will and Tracie Maestas, Jaime Lucero, Marcus and Jane Trujillo, Matthew and Casey Trujillo, Derrick Mora, Lenny Mora, Jessica and Irvi Gonzalez and Michael Mora; great-grandchildren; Tessa Buser, Jayden and Carsen Mora, Audrey and Richard Sandoval, Briana, Marissa, Alan, Maestas, Deon, Jordan and Devon Lucero. Riley and Brynley Trujillo, Hazel Trujillo. Dominic, Damian, Angelia Mora, Josh, Jae Lee, A.J. Gonzalez; great-great-grandson Adonis Lucero.

Dorothy was proceeded in death by Joe Paul Mora husband of 74 years, brothers; Donald and Elmer Rios, Ballard Olguin, Levi Garcia.

Cremation was Dorothy’s choice, and a celebration of life will be held at a later date to honor both Dorothy and Joe Mora. The family would like to thank the employees of San Luis Care Center for their loving care of our mother. Also, our local hospital who always showed our family kindness. We will be forever grateful.
