Dallas D. Ray Peoples

Dallas (79) passed away on Friday, January 25, 2019 in his home with family by his side. He was born on December 5, 1939 in Gentry, Arkansas to Chester and Edna (Mendenhall) Peoples. 

Dallas grew up in Blanca, CO and graduated from Sierra Grande High School.  He joined the military after graduation and served 21 years, earning the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, the Sharpshooter Badge, Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal twice.  He retired from the army as a Sergeant E8.

After the Army, he worked in the refrigeration business from 1980 to 1990.

He bought and remodeled M & M Drug in Blanca, CO and ran it from 1983 to 1991.

He married Virginia May (Shrout) on December 28, 1984.  They resided on the old La Veta Pass and also bought a farm/ranch in Fort Garland, CO where they ranched from 1984 to 2002.

He was active on the Wagon Creek Ranch Association Board of Directors and served on the Trinchera Water Conservative District Board, among other things.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Edna (Mendenhall) Peoples; grandparents, Fanne and Rosie Mendenhall and Jesse and Maude Peoples.  And also his infant daughter, Sara Jo Peoples; in-laws, Bill and Virgie Shrout; brothers-in-law, Ed Shrout, Davy Shrout and Clarence Randall.

He is survived by his spouse of 34 years, Virginia May (Shrout) Peoples, Pueblo, CO; sister, Gloria (Peoples) Randall, La Veta, CO; lifetime friend (like a brother), Keith (Linda) Hard, Blanca, CO; daughters, Steffanie (Craig) Allen, Highland, MI and Glinda Peoples, Northville, MI; step-sons and step-daughters, Mark Warren, Denver, CO, Joy (Dale) Rosburg, Elbert, CO, Scot (Julie) Warren, Denton, TX, Michael (Tamera) Thompson, Ogden, UT, Michelle Neubauer, Pawley Island, SC. 

Grandchildren, Dennis (Sara) Warren, Mustang, OK, Michael Warren, Denver, CO, Dustin (Anna) Rosburg, Grand Forks, ND, Lacy Rosburg, Bloomfield, NM, Cody Rosburg, Elbert, CO, Lindsay Warren, Sarasota, FL, Brenna Warren, Denton, TX, Nicolette (Michael) Thompson, Denver, CO, Savannah Thompson, Englewood, CO, Chase Thompson, Ogden, UT, Lauren Thompson, Ogden UT, Isabella Neubauer, St Louis, MO and Ryleigh Neubauer, Pawley Island, SC.

Numerous brothers -in- law and sisters in law, one aunt, cousins, nieces and nephews.

“Oliver”, his closest friend and companion.

Dallas (“Ray”, as he was called by some) enjoyed being in the outdoors, especially the mountains, and hunting and fishing.  He was an animal-lover and enjoyed all his “critters.”  He loved to take the grandkids along and mentor them about survival and life skills such as; fishing, hunting, cutting trees, cutting firewood, building fences, learning to drive and taking care of animals.  For 10 years, he also enjoyed traveling in the RV during the winter months, staying in military bases, state parks, and visiting family and friends in other states.

Per Dallas’ request, cremation has taken place and there will be no viewing.  A Memorial Service will be held at T.G.  McCarthy Funeral Home, 329 Goodnight, Pueblo, CO 81004 on February 9th, beginning at 2:00 PM.
