Crystal Melanie Lucero

San Luis — San Luis resident Crystal Melanie Lucero, 36, went to her eternal rest May 12, 2019 at the Skyridge Medical Center under Hospice care surrounded by her loving family. Crystal made her grand entrance into the world Sept. 5, 1982 in La Jara, the beloved daughter of Antonio De La Cruz and Nadine Atencio. United in marriage July 9, 2002 to Ernest Lucero III, the two shared a loving and happy union until her passing.

Sharing her passion for working with others and children Crystal spent many years working as a pre-school teacher. Crystal was a phenomenal wife, daughter, godmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed teaching, being outdoors, going fishing, camping, reading, listening to country music, coloring and spending time with her family and friends. Crystal’s time with us was not long enough, but she made a lasting impression on everyone she met, and she will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her husband Ernie Lucero III of San Luis; mother Nadine Atencio of San Antonio; sister Christina (Phillip) Silvas of Alamosa; goddaughter Abigal Munoz of San Luis; uncle Adrian Atencio of San Antonio; aunt Mary Atencio of San Antonio; nephew Patrick Vigil of Antonito; niece Adriana Norbiga and her cat Patches and dogs Jordan and Peyton. She is also survived by numerous cousins and friends.

Crystal was preceded in death by her father-in-law Ernest Lucero Jr., maternal grandfather Ruben E. Atencio.

A vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held Wednesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Conejos. Another Vigil will be held Thursday, May 16, at 7 p.m. at Sangre De Cristo Catholic Church. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 at 10 a.m. at the Centennial High School Gymnasium. Viewing and visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15, from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in Antonito. Another viewing will be held on Thursday from 1-5 p.m. at the Romero Funeral Chapel in San Luis. Burial will be held at a later date.
