Beneranda “Bennie” Margaret Naranjo, 89

Longtime Monte Vista resident Beneranda “Bennie” Margaret Naranjo, 89, passed away March 5, 2019 at her home under Hospice care surrounded by her loving family.  Bennie was welcomed into the world on May 27, 1929 in Villa Grove, Colorado, the daughter of Candidado Duran and Sulema Archuleta Duran. She was united in marriage to Horacio Eloy Naranjo and the two shared a long and happy union until his passing. Bennie devoted her life to raising and caring for all her children and grandchildren. She was an exceptional, kind, patient and loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed washing clothes, cooking large meals for her family and spending all the time she could with her family and friends. She was a selfless person and was always the first to help anyone in need.  As her family would say, Bennie was the heart of their family and everyone’s rock. She will be dearly missed.

Survivors include her children MaryAnn (Rudy) Herrera of Colorado Springs, CO; Rosemary (Lorenzo) Morales of Ft. Collins, CO; Lorraine Monge, Bernice (Henry) Jiron, Teresa Flores all of Monte Vista, CO; Maureen Berlinda Naranjo of Denver, CO; Theodore Naranjo of Denver, CO; Arnold Naranjo, Horacio Naranjo Jr., both of Monte Vista, CO; Arlene Gallegos of Salt Lake City, UT, and Brenda Naranjo of Monte Vista ; daughter-in-law Debbie Escamilla of Denver, CO; 30 grandchildren, 85 great-grandchildren, over 150 great-great-grandchildren, siblings Beverly Mascarenas, Refugio Duran of Trinidad, CO; Mary Archuleta of Wyoming. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Bennie was preceded in death by her parents Candidado and Sulema Duran, husband Horacio Naranjo III, son Richard Naranjo, grandson Ramon “Noodles” Flore, one daughter and 10 sons.

A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Sunday, March 10, 2019 at 7:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 10:00 AM also at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Workers Union Cemetery in Monte Vista.
