Alamosa council seats up for election

ALAMOSA — The City of Alamosa announces four positions available on the Alamosa City Council. Candidates will be elected by mail ballot during the coordinated election to be held on November 7.

Positions available include: Mayor (currently held by Josef Lucero), At Large (currently held by Jan Vigil), Ward 2 (currently held by Kristina Daniel), and Ward 4 (currently held by Michael Stefano).

So far, Councilman Stefano has announced his intention to seek reelection, and Councilman Ty Coleman has announced candidacy for mayor.

To qualify as a candidate you must: 1) be a U.S. citizen; 2) be at least 21 years of age; 

3) be a qualified elector of the City of Alamosa for at least one year prior to the election date;  and 4) live in the respective ward if running for a ward position.

A candidate orientation session will be held Monday, August 7, at 6 p.m. in city council chambers, 300 Hunt Avenue, Alamosa. Potential candidates and anyone curious about running for council should plan to attend this session.

Petitions may be circulated from August 8 through August 24. Completed petitions must be submitted to the city clerk no later than 5 p.m. on August 24.
