Alamosa Christmas dinner will be held in new location

ALAMOSA — All are invited to the 2017 Free Community Christmas Dinner on Monday, December 25th, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at a new location, the Columbus Home Association Event Center (aka Knights of Columbus-behind the Bank Shot), 1112 Eighth Street, Alamosa.

On Christmas Day each year, approximately 80 volunteers come together to coordinate a sit-down turkey dinner with all the fixings, musical entertainment and even a visit from Santa who provides all the children with presents.

This year, the committee recognizes the invaluable past service of Patricia Lucero who was killed in an automobile accident on December 28th last year. Pat was an integral part of the committee for many years prior to stepping up to become the leader of this committee. Pat’s memory will be honored at this event.

A special thanks also goes to the American Legion for providing a location to hold past annual events.  Members of the American Legion will also be honored at the 2017 dinner.

More than 1,000 individuals will be fed at the event. This number will include the delivery of roughly 250 meals to homebound residents in or near Alamosa.

This event was originally founded by Ann Edstrom Watters in 1990 to ensure that no one had to spend Christmas alone.  Although the founder passed away in April 2009, her legacy continues through the dedication of committee members and by the generous donations and efforts of San Luis Valley communities. Continued monetary support is what makes this annual event possible.
