“It is for freedom that Christ has set us free” (Galatians 5:1). The Apostle Paul wrote this to Christians who were confused about the difference between religion and following Christ. He wanted them to know there is a big difference between following rules or religious systems and following Jesus. Jesus never sinned, but because he didn’t follow the rules and traditions of the dominant religion of his day, the religious leaders hated him. Jesus consistently loved and served others, yet the religious folks decided to get rid of him, because he didn’t meet their expectations of a “godly” man. Religious people are often some of the most unloving people you’ll ever meet, because they are serving rules instead of serving God.
