SAN LUIS VALLEY—Two San Luis Valley 8-man football teams have survived the cross-divisional round and the unofficial opening round of the playoffs. The Sargent Farmers and Sanford Indians are now in a field of 16 teams set for four the opening round of the playoffs.
The Sargent Farmers, who won the Mountain League Title and hold a 7-2 overall record, will enter the tournament as the No. 7 seed. They will host the No. 10 seeded Vail Christian Saints, who are 6-1 on the season, on Saturday at 1 p.m.
The road for the Farmers has not been easy as they have played five of their regular season games against teams that are in the round of 16. They were able to defeat Fowler Merino and Sanford but they fell to Kiowa and Dayspring Christian.
The Farmers are known for their rough and tough offensive linemen accompanied by an explosive offense that is able to make plays happen out of the blue. The Farmers average 253.8 rushing yards per game.
