PUEBLO ó Two weeks short of a trial for causing the 2012 deaths of three Alamosa teens, Pueblo resident Gilbert Sanchez, 37, will likely accept a plea agreement.

Sanchezís attorney Deputy State Public Defender Seth Johnson told District Judge Larry Schwartz Monday afternoon that a plea agreement had been reached in the case. He told the judge that Sanchez plans to enter his plea at 4 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20. He did not elaborate on the details of the plea.

Monday had been scheduled for a pre-trial conference, continued from March 1 when the defense had just received additional evidentiary documents. Also at that time District Judge Thomas Flesher had just ruled on outstanding motions in the case. The judge denied numerous motions including defense motions to suppress Sanchezís statements and blood analysis the night of the fatal accident that took the lives of Anisa Montoya, 18, Serina Sena, 14, and Selena Mascarenas, 14 at the corner of Northern Ave. and Pueblo Blvd. in Pueblo.

Sanchez is currently free on bond. He and family members and friends were present in the courtroom on Monday when the plea deal was announced. Also present were members of the victimsí families, some in tears.
