Community invited to International Week Potluck

Posted: Friday, Nov 9th, 2012

ALAMOSA – Promoting peace, unity, and cultural enlightenment and in celebration of US International Education Week, the Third Annual Adams State University International Cuisine Potluck will be held from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 17, at the Alamosa Elks Lodge, at 406 Hunt Ave. Community members are welcome to bring a dish and enjoy the dinner and entertainment. The Adams State Multicultural Club is cosponsoring the event with the San Luis Valley Immigration Resource Center.

SLV Immigrant Resource Center will fundraise for their organization during the event, with an auction and ticket sales, see below.

Multicultural Club sponsor Oneyda Maestas, said this year’s theme honors and celebrates Native American culture. “We have many students from the Navajo, Zuni, Lakota Sioux, Ute Nations and we are excited to present performances by Azteca Dancers and the SLV Mayan Marimba, Espiritu Maya.”

The event allows participants to experience diverse cultures through food.  It is a night of international celebration honoring diversity within Adams State and SLV communities. Groups of one to three people are encouraged to bring one cultural potluck dish to share; groups of four to six are asked to bring two dishes.

Those not interested in cooking or providing a dish of food, may purchase a $30 ticket. Each person must supply their own tableware, including plates, silverware, napkins, and cups. Maestas requests participants include a recipe card listing the ingredients of the dish for the purpose of acknowledging food allergies for the mass crowd.

The Adams State Diversity-Multicultural Club is proud to participate in the nationwide International Education Week, uniting over 30 international cultures from campus and the San Luis Valley Community.

This alcohol and drug free event is sponsored by Adams State Diversity Multicultural Club, El Parnaso, Newman Club, All-Nations, Prism Club, Black Student Union, the Office of Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Associated Students and Faculty and ASU Community Partnerships. Community sponsors include Immigration Resource Center, Calvillos, Juanitos Restaurant, Tortilla Company, SLV community members, Catholic Daughters of the Americas, and the Valley Girls Avon.
