GRAND JUNCTION — Former Alamosa resident and Colorado Mesa University student Sadie Camis, 28, and fiancé Nathan Dennis, also 28, were arrested Saturday in connection with the killing of Rigoberto Luna, 38, whose body was found near Grand Junction on October 22.

An autopsy showed Luna was strangled to death.

Camis and Dennis are being held by the Mesa County Sheriff’s Department on first-degree murder charges, and Dennis also faces an aggravated robbery charge.

A third person, Aaron Ungles, 26, was arrested on suspicion of six felony counts of identity theft and one misdemeanor count of theft of less than $500 related to using the victim’s debit card following his death.

Mesa County Court Judge Craig Henderson on Monday ordered Dennis jailed on $200,000 bond. The judge set bond at $100,000 in Camis’ case. Ungles is being held in the Mesa County Jail on $7,500 bond.

According to a Mesa County Sheriff’s Office arrest affidavit, the suspects had used Luna’s bank card to withdraw money. By tracking his card and reviewing surveillance videos at gas stations, liquor stores and ATMs, investigators saw a white Chevrolet pickup, which they later linked to Dennis and Camis.

Through further investigation, Ungles was also identified as one of the subjects in the surveillance videos, according to the affidavit.

On Oct. 26, investigators interviewed Ungles, who allegedly told them the Oct 21 homicide had been planned by Camis and Dennis who asked Luna for a ride to the liquor store, with Ungles and his girlfriend also in the vehicle, according to the affidavit.

In her testimony at the sheriff’s office, Ungles’ girlfriend said they had been drinking, smoking pots and doing meth around this time.

After a number of stops in Luna’s Jeep, Camis decided to drive, with Luna sitting in the passenger seat and Dennis seated behind him.

Ungles told authorities Camis was to give her fiancée a signal when to jump Luna but when she did not, Dennis allegedly grabbed a lug wrench, put it in front of Luna’s neck and strangled him from behind.

Camis continued driving as the assault happened, Ungles told investigators.

The group then allegedly dumped Luna’s body after Dennis and Camis removed Luna’s pants and shoes and Ungles took his debit card.
