ALAMOSA — La Puente, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting individuals experiencing homelessness and poverty, held its annual Winter Vigil on Jan. 22, to honor and remember those who passed away in 2024 after utilizing the organization’s services.
The event took place in front of La Puente’s shelter, bringing together community members, staff, and volunteers for a solemn evening of remembrance. Musical pieces were performed, names were read, and moments of silence were observed to reflect on the lives lost.
“Tonight is a cold night, and rather than trying to escape it, we are here to embrace it.,” said Catherine Disney, an AmeriCorps member serving with La Puente. “Let the briskness [of the air] remind us of the fragility of life.”
The Winter Vigil is a cornerstone of La Puente’s mission to offer compassionate support to those in need and to remind the community of the ongoing challenges faced by individuals experiencing homelessness. It also serves as a call to action for greater awareness and support.
La Puente extends its gratitude to all who attended and contributed to this meaningful event. For more information about La Puente and its programs, visit https://lapuentehome.org.
