ALAMOSA — The Alamosa Mosquito Control District (AMCD) has discovered the West Nile Virus in mosquitoes trapped within the district on July 13 at 1 p.m. located in East Alamosa just off of Rio Grande Ave and East Fourth St.

The Alamosa Mosquito Control District responded immediately by sending all larvicide crews to treat any standing water within the immediate areas of concern. If weather permits the adulticide applications will ensue via the fog trucks and handheld backpack sprayers. The area will continue to be monitored and re-tested until the risk lessons or is eliminated.

Please take proper personal protection measures from being infected by mosquitoes. This may include applying an effective repellant, according to directions, which contains 20-30 percent DEET and wearing clothing that covers exposed skin as much as possible.

Please contact the district at 719-589-5409.
