Lifelong Alamosa resident Vita Maestas, 90, passed away May 29, 2018 in Denver under Hospice Care surrounded by her loving husband and family. Vita was welcomed into the world on April 25, 1928 in Alamosa, Colorado, the daughter of Manuel Lucero and Rafelita Aragon Lucero. Norris and Vita met in grade school as childhood friends. They were united in marriage for 70 years on April 25, 2018. She was a devoted member of the Sacred Heart Church in Alamosa and a member of the Knights of Columbus Women's Auxiliary. Vita was an exceptional and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great-grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin and friend who enjoyed attending family functions, going to bingo, baking and spending time with her family and friends. An irreplaceable part of our family is no longer with us, but we will all keep the memories she left with us close to our hearts. She will be dearly missed.
Survivors include her loving husband Norris Maestas of Alamosa, CO; daughters Kathryn (Leonard) Romero of Alamosa, CO; Grace (Toby) Jacquez of Arvada, CO; sons Michael (Dolly) Maestas of Alamosa, CO; Ken (Mary) Maestas of Centennial, CO; Tom (Donna) Maestas of Alamosa, CO; grandchildren DeeAnn (Louis) Gomez, Kristie (Robert) Bonino, Trishia (Brent) Redearth, Alisha(Anthony)Valdez, Jared (Krystle)Valdez, Justin (Gabriella) Valdez, Michael (Jennifer) Maestas, Brian Maestas, Heather (Travis) Young, Ashley Maestas, Jennifer McMichael(James), Nichole (Robbie) Hopper, Brittany Maestas, Tommy Maestas, great-grandchildren Vanessa (Shawn) Archuleta, Brandon (Miranda) Chavez, Michael (Adrienne) Gomez, Zachary Gomez ,Christopher Lucero, Isaac Lucero, Taylor Maestas, Ethan Maestas, Landen Young, Skylar Young, Cameron Young, Peyton Young, Kylee McMichael, Braiden Hopper, Tinlee Hopper, great-great-grandchildren Dominic Sanchez-Archuleta and DaMarcus Sanchez-Archuleta; brothers Carmel (Diane) Aragon of Las Vegas, NV and Peter (Carol) Ortega of Silver City, NM. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Vita is preceded in death by her parents Manuel and Rafelita Lucero, sister's Rebecca Madril, Bertha Morrel, Gloria Ortiz, brothers Arthur Lucero and Manuel Maestas.
A Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held on Monday, June 4, 2018 at 7:00 PM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Alamosa. A Mass of the Resurrection will be held on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at 10:00 AM also at Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Interment will follow at the Alamosa Cemetery. Viewing and visitation will be held on Monday from 1-5 PM at the Romero Funeral Chapel. The care of arrangements have been entrusted to Romero Funeral Home of Alamosa.
