Valley teams miss state, send Chavez and Hoffstaetter

DENVER— Last Monday the Alamosa, Monte Vista and Creede golf teams competed in 3A regional golf tournaments in Aurora and Colorado City. The Valley teams took sixth, seventh and 15th respectively.
Within the state championship format the top two teams from each region qualify for the state. Then outside of those two teams 13 unaffiliated golfers are sent to compete for an individual state championship.
So the way things shook out for regionals Alamosa, Creede and Monte Vista competed in two different regions. Alamosa took part in the Region 2 tournament and faced the CommonGround Golf Course in Aurora.

Alamosa took sixth with a +35 score as a team. The top two team spots were occupied by Colorado Academy and Eaton. As such they will be representing Region 2.
Monte Vista and Creede competed in the Region 1 tournament on Hollydot Golf Course in Colorado City. Monte Vista took seventh place with a +55 team score and Creede took 15th place with a +184 team score. Region 1 will be represented by Kent Denver and Lutheran High School who finished with a +1 and +24 respectively.
While Alamosa, Creede and Monte Vista came up short, both Alamosa and Monte Vista had golfers within the unaffiliated top 13 of their respective tournaments. Donny Chavez of Alamosa hit a 5 over par to take ninth place and Luke Hoffstaetter hit 10 over to tie for 12th in his tournament.
Both golfers will be attending the state championship tournament competing for an individual title with the likes of Oliver Jack of Kent Denver, Christian Agelopoulos of Colorado Academy and Peter Grossenbacher of Eaton all of whom shot two under in regionals.
Follow Chavez and Hoffstaetter on the Indian Peaks Golf Course in Lafayette as they compete in the 3A State Championship Tournament on Oct. 2 and 3.
