ALAMOSA COUNTY — A one-vehicle traffic accident in Alamosa County on Saturday night, April 26, claimed the life of a young woman from Aurora.

According to Sgt. Kelly Rippe with the Colorado State Patrol, at about 10:50 p.m. on Saturday, April 25, a Nissan Titan carrying four people – two adults and two children - was headed southbound on Highway 17 near Mile Post 79 just south of Mosca when the truck traveled partially off the southbound side of the roadway. The Titan then began to rotate clockwise across the roadway and traveled off the northbound side, continuing to rotate clockwise. The Titan then overturned an undetermined number of times and came to rest on its driver's side.

While the car was overturning, the passenger in the front passenger seat was ejected from the truck and came to final rest in the overturning path of the Titan. The passenger was declared deceased at the scene.

The people in the truck were all from Aurora, including the driver, 20-year-old Angel Martinez. The front seat passenger killed in the accident was identified as 20-year-old Claudia Serrano Calderon. The two children in the back seat, a boy and a girl, are both a year old. Their names were not released.

When asked if the cause of the accident has been determined, Sgt. Rippe says the incident is still under investigation, but it appears, at this time, as if the driver fell asleep at the wheel.
