Tobias L. Romo, affectionately known as Toby, was born on April 5, 1961, in Embudo, N.M. He passed away peacefully on Sept. 25, 2024, in Colorado Springs, Colo., surrounded by his loving family after a long battle with illness.
Toby was the cherished son of Joe E. Romo and Juanita S. Romo, and is survived by his beloved older sisters, Amelia Garcia (Center, Colo.) Thelma Suazo (Pilar, N.M.), and older brother, Ambrose Gonzales, (Center, Colo). He also leaves behind his nieces, Debra (Arnold) Lujan and Marie (Robert) Gonzales, nephew Joseph (Jacqueline) Garcia, God-daughter Briana Lujan, God-son Lucas Lucero, son-like Jeremy Sanchez, brother-like Larry Espinosa, long-time friend Marcella Jaramillo along with numerous great-nephews and nieces.
He was preceded in death by his parents Joe E. Romo and Juanita S. Romo, brother Elmer Romo, and brother-in-law Jerry A. Garcia.
In his early years, Toby was an avid outdoorsman, passionately enjoying hunting, fishing, camping, skiing, and fearlessly riding his dirt bikes. A skilled carpenter, mechanic, and craftsman, he had an artistic vision that was evident in all he created.
Toby continued to live life on his own terms, even as his illness limited his mobility. Known for his stubbornness and hard-headedness, Toby was also loving and caring, a friend to many who knew him and someone you can count on to assist or direct you with whatever you needed help with.
He was the life of the party and the leader of family prayers during special occasions. Toby’s spirit, infectious smile and laugh, touched the lives of those around him, and he will be greatly missed. Gone but never forgotten, Toby will forever remain in our hearts.
A recitation of the Rosary will be held on Oct. 5 at 10 a.m., followed by the funeral service at St. Francis Jerome Catholic Church, Center, Colo. Inurnment of ashes at Carnero Creek Cemetery La Garita, Colo.
