It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Theresa Sanchez, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, who left this world peacefully on Feb. 22, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on June 26, 1942, Theresa was a dedicated member of the Monte Vista, Colo., community and a longtime active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. 

Theresa was a nurturing spirit who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She had a deep passion for her garden, lovingly tending to her flowers, which were a testament to her vibrant personality. Known for her love of dancing and the art of cooking and baking, she brought joy to many gatherings with her culinary creations. Her caring nature extended beyond her family, as she dedicated nearly a decade to teaching at the Monte Vista Head Start, shaping the lives of countless students. 

Theresa is survived by her five devoted sons: Eli (Theresa) Benavides, David Benavides, Chris Benavides, Vince (Elena) Benavides and Jason (Melanie) Benavides, her grandchildren: Krystal (Ray) Benavides, Ashley Benavides, Alisha (Evan) Benavides, Kevin Benavides, Joseph Benavides Jr., Nakita Archuleta, Devyn (Garrett) Pacheco, Jamell Benavides, and great-grandchildren: Greysen Bahl, Eliana Bahl, Christian Bahl, Nyamiah Derbin, Keziyah Derbin, Carter Pacheco, Brynley Pacheco, and Gemma Pacheco. She also leaves behind her brother, Ted Sanchez. Her legacy of love and kindness will live on through all who were fortunate enough to know her. 

Cremation was selected, and a Vigil Service with Recitation of the Rosary will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. A Memorial Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, March 8, 2025, also at the church. Interment of the ashes will follow in the Monte Vista Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to celebrate her remarkable life and the love she shared with all of us. 

Theresa was preceded in death by her parents, John P. and Senaida Sanchez as well as her siblings, Josie Sanchez, Ruth Garcia, and Tommy Sanchez.
