SAN LUIS VALLEY — The results of the Colorado Measures for Academic Success testing were recently released by the Colorado Department of Education.
Around 550,000 students were assessed statewide, with third through eighth grades tested in math, and language arts. The science assessment was given to fifth, eighth and 11th grades.
Overall statewide, 44.5 percent of students met or exceeded expectations in language arts and math, reflecting 2.2 percent change from the 2017 percentage. In math, 34.1 percent of the students tested statewide met or exceeded expectations, which represented a 1.3-percent improvement between 2017 and 2018. The statewide percentage of those who met or exceeded expectations in science was 31.2 percent, a .4 percent improvement over the previous year.
The following statistics reflect how San Luis Valley schools compare:
Alamosa — 35 percent of all students in the grades tested in the Alamosa schools (1,072 students included in the test results) met or exceeded expectations in English language arts, 22.8 percent in mathematics and 22.3 percent in science (481 students included in science test results.) These testing results reflected a positive improvement of 2 percent in both English language arts and math over the previous year’s results and a -2.6 percent change in science test results compared to 2017.
