MONTE VISTA—Stan Scymanski was born in Norton, Kan. April 7, 1922; but he grew up in Monte Vista.
He graduated from Holy Cross Abbey in Canyon City, Colo. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II at the rank of Staff Sergeant. Following his military service; he attended Adams State College, moved to the Denver area, met and wed his beloved wife Gloria, and started a family.
In 1958, Stan purchased the Ford garage in Monte Vista and moved his family back to the San Luis Valley. He was a member of the American Legion and The Elks Lodge. In the late 1970s, he began working in the Real-estate field and continued that until retirement. Stan loved the mountains and all activities related to them. In his later years, Stan resided at the Colorado State Veterans Center at Homelake, Colo. and passed away there on April 2, 2017.
His death was preceded by his parents, his sister Phyllis, his wife Gloria and a son, Steven.
Stan is survived by a sister, Patty Riggenbach; a son, Robert; daughter-in-law, Cindy Scymanski; two granddaughters Suzanne and Amy Scymanski and a great-grandson, Christopher Scymanski.
