THE VALLEY — The San Luis Valley Chapter of Trout Unlimited (SLVTU) is making waves with a year full of exciting updates, achievements, and initiatives aimed at fostering a love for conservation, education, and our valley's waterways. From new logos to student programs, scholarships, and well-deserved state recognition, SLVTU is truly “Cultivating Conservation” in every sense.

A Fresh Look: New Logo and Tagline

This year, SLVTU unveiled a new logo and tagline: “Cultivating Conservation.” Just as farmers in the valley nurture their crops and soil, SLVTU is dedicated to cultivating a strong conservation ethic among youth and the broader community. The logo reflects the unique beauty of the San Luis Valley and emphasizes the chapter's commitment to environmental stewardship, education, and community involvement.

The tagline speaks to the heart of the mission — not just protecting trout and rivers but growing a culture of conservation that will last for generations.

Statewide Recognition: Outstanding Chapter Award

At the Colorado Trout Unlimited State Rendezvous this past fall, SLVTU was honored with the Colorado State Outstanding Chapter Award. This prestigious recognition highlights the chapter’s dedication to community engagement, educational outreach, and successful conservation projects.

This award is a testament to the hard work and passion of volunteers, educators, and members who make SLVTU's mission possible.

Trout in the Classroom: Hands-On Conservation Education

The Trout in the Classroom (TIC) program continues to thrive in the San Luis Valley. This fall, volunteers delivered 1,400 trout eggs to classrooms to seven tank across six  local schools, including Del Norte, Monte Vista, Alamosa, Centauri, Antonito, and Centennial.

Students are now caring for trout fry, learning about water quality, fish biology, and ecosystem health. The culmination of months of learning will be celebrated on March 13, 2025, when students release their trout into the Conejos River.

This hands-on program is more than science — it’s about building a connection to our natural world and inspiring future stewards of our waterways.

Monte Vista High School Launches TU Student Chapter 001

In an exciting milestone, Monte Vista High School has launched the very first Trout Unlimited Student Chapter (Chapter 001) in Colorado. This initiative empowers students to become active conservation leaders, providing opportunities for hands-on projects, leadership roles, and community involvement.

This student chapter represents the future of conservation in the San Luis Valley, with young leaders stepping up to make a meaningful difference.

Scholarship Opportunities for Future Conservation Leaders
