Seven SLV athletes to play in CHSCA All-State Games

ALAMOSA – A total of seven San Luis Valley high school graduate student-athletes will be competing in the Colorado High School Coaches Association All-State Games which will take place June 11-14 at CSU Pueblo.

Three of the locals will be playing boys basketball. Sanford’s Cash Caldon will play for the Black team, Sierra Grande’s Brian Ontiveros will be on the Blue team, and Centauri’s Chaz Holman will compete for the Red team.

Caldon led the Mustangs in scoring with 16 points per game, and he also averaged 4.8 rebounds, 1.7 assists and 1.5 steals per game.

Ontiveros was the Panthers’ leading scorer with 16.7 points per game, and he also averaged 2.2 rebounds, two assists and two steals per game.

Holman averaged 9.3 points, 3.9 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 4.1 steals per game.

The Red team will play the White team on June 11 at 6:30 p.m., and the Blue team will play the Black team at 7:45 p.m. The third-place game is June 12 at 6:30 p.m., and the championship game is at 8 p.m.

One local athlete will be playing girls basketball as Center’s Alicia Rios will play for the White team.

Rios led the Lady Vikings in scoring with 12.1 points per game and she also averaged 3.1 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 3.6 steals per game.

Monte Vista’s Shawna Larson will be one of the White team’s coaches.

The girls semifinals will be on June 11 with the Red team playing the White team at 4 p.m., and the Blue team will play the Black team at 5:15 p.m. The third-place game is June 12 at 3:30 p.m. and the championship is at 5 p.m.

All of the basketball games, both boys and girls, will be played at Massari Arena.

One local athlete will be playing in the girls soccer game as Del Norte’s Peytin Neal will play for the Red team at 5:30 p.m. on June 13 at the Gonzales Soccer/LaCrosse Complex.

Complete statistics for Neal were unavailable.

There will also be one local athlete playing volleyball as Centauri’s Kailyn Polzin will play for the Blue team, The semifinals will be played on June 13 with the Red team playing the White team at 6:30 p.m., and the Blue team will play the Black team at 7:45. The third-place match will be played at 2:30 p.m. on June 14, and the championship is at 4 p.m. All volleyball matches will be played at Massari Arena.

Polzin led the Lady Falcons in kills with 430 and she also tallied 64 blocks, 287 digs, 29 service aces and eight assists.

There will be only one SLV athlete playing in the All-State football game as Centauri’s Deven Brady will play for the South team.

The football game kicks off at 7:30 p.m. at the Thunderbowl.

Brady had 493 rushing yards and seven touchdowns, and he had 13 receptions for 261 yards and three touchdowns. On defense, he had 82 tackles, one sack and two pass interceptions.

There are no local athletes playing in the softball game which will be played June 12 at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Field, the boys soccer game which will take place June 13 at 5:30 p.m. at the Gonzales Soccer/Lacrosse Complex, or the wrestling match which will be June 14 at 11 a.m. at Massari Arena.
