LA JARA — Conejos County Sheriff’s deputies and Colorado State Patrol troopers responding to a possible threat at Centauri High School on Monday found that the threat was unfounded, according to Conejos County Undersheriff Christopher Crown.
Crown said that the school reported a concern about a student who was “threatening to shoot up the school.” Sheriff’s deputies and CSP troopers responded to Centauri but found the threat to be unfounded, “no threat at all,” Crown said.
“There was no threat to the students, nobody in danger,” Crown said.
He added that the school was never in lock down or lock out.
“Everybody’s safe,” he said.
Crown added, however, that authorities are continuing to investigate.
“There is no reason to be alarmed at this time,” he said.
North Conejos Superintendent Curt Wilson posted on the district’s Facebook page on Monday morning that the school had received phone calls that morning stating that a given student allegedly made online threats to Centauri High School.
“As all reports are taken seriously, regardless of their nature or source, police were informed immediately; all information received by the district was shared to law enforcement. Appropriately, they have responded and are investigating any and all information, reports and leads,” Wilson added.
“However, at this time there is no direct threat to any school or individual. Also at this time, there is no direct threat to any area school or individual.”
Wilson added, “We acknowledge and appreciate immediate contact whenever there is even the slightest possibility of a threat to a school in any shape, form, or through any medium … We remind staff, our school community, students and others to remain vigilant and report any information regarding student, staff and school safety immediately to school administrators, law enforcement, or by calling Safe-2-Tell (1-877-542-7233).”
