Sargent sending eight swimmers to state meet

The Sargent High School girls swimming team will send eight competitors to the Class 3A State Meet which takes place Friday and Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton. The swimmers are from five different schools from across the San Luis Valley.

Sargent sending eight swimmers to state meet

ALAMOSA – The Sargent High School girls swimming team will send eight competitors to the Class 3A State Meet which takes place Friday and Saturday at the Veterans Memorial Aquatic Center in Thornton.

The swimmers are from five different schools from across the San Luis Valley.

Four of them will compete in four events. Emma Sewell of Sargent qualified for state in all 11 events offered, but she will compete in the 100-yard butterfly in which she recorded a time of 1:06.55, and she will be in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:21.97.

Willa Seesz-Sanchez of Center will compete in the 200 IM with a time of 2:35.49 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:17.19.

Kaylee Gonzales-Moore of Alamosa will participate in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:12.56 and the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.53.

Another Alamosa swimmer, Danielle Aquino, will be in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:00.82 and the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:08.29.

These four swimmers will also compete in two relays. They will be in the 200-yard medley relay in which they recorded a time of 1:58.78, and the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:49.67.

The remaining four swimmers, Dayzha Cruz-Martinez of Alamosa, Annika Schaak of Monte Vista, Kyra Griffin of Sargent, and Alycia Martinez-Chavez of Centauri, will compete in the 400-yard freestyle relay. They recorded a time of 4:13.37 in this event.

Sargent places second at league meet

The Lady Farmers participated in the South-Central League Meet this past weekend at Pueblo County High School and they came in second in the team standings.

Sargent came away with four individual championships. Sewell won the 200 IM and the 500 freestyle, Gonzales-Moore won the 200 freestyle, and Seesz-Sanchez won the 100 breaststroke.

Sewell, Seesz-Sanchez, Aquino and Gonzales-Moore also won the 200 freestyle relay.

Aquino was second in the 100 backstroke, and the Lady Farmers were also second in the 200 medley relay and the 400 freestyle relay.

Martinez-Chavez took third place in the 100 freestyle, Seesz-Sanchez was fourth in the 200 IM, Aquino was fourth in the 100 butterfly, and Goanzles-Moore was fourth in the 100 backstroke.

Pueblo County won the league championship with 381 points and Sargent scored 307.
