Sargent girls blow past Ignacio, 56-17

SARGENT SCHOOL – The eighth-ranked Sargent High School girls basketball team played on its home court for the first time in 2025 on Tuesday and the Lady Farmers celebrated with a 56-17 win over Ignacio.

Kimmy Pargin scored the first points of the game for the Lady Farmers, but Alyssa Atencio made two baskets to give the Lady Bobcats their only lead at 4-2 with 2:28 left in the first quarter.

The lead didn’t last for long. Tami Torgler tied the score with a jumper, and Angelise Sandoval drove for a layup to give Sargent the lead.

The Lady Farmers would score the final 11 points of the first quarter with Kandace Pargin scoring five points, Torgler four and Sandoval two.

The run continued into the second quarter as the Lady Farmers scored the first six points. Makenzie Consaul scored four of the points and Sandoval two. It was a 17-0 run that allowed Sargent to start pulling away.

Addison Kremer ended the rally with a layup, but Kandace Pargin answered with a layup of her own. Victoria Brown then scored back-to-back layups for the Lady Bobcats, but Kimmy Pargin closed out the first half scoring and the Lady Farmers had a 23-10 advantage at the intermission.

The Lady Farmers had another long scoring run to open the third quarter scoring the first 15 points of the quarter. Sandoval scored four points, Kimmy Pargin had 3-point basket, and Kandace Pargin, Consaul, Torgler and Reese Anderson each scored two.

Atencio made two free throws to account for Ignacio’s first points of the second half. Kandace Pargin then hit a jumper and added a free throw, but DeLaney Wesner hit a jumper to end the period and the Lady Farmers’ lead stood at 41-14.

Aubree Lucero made Ignacio’s only 3-pointer of the game to begin the fourth quarter. However, Sargent scored the final 15 points of the game. Kandace Pargin scored six points, Sandoval three, and Consaul, Kimmy Pargin and Anderson each scored two.

Kandace Pargin led all scorers with 18 points, followed by Sandoval with 11, Kimmy Pargin with nine and Consaul with eight.

Atencio was the Lady Bobcats’ leading scorer with six points.

Sargent (6-2) traveled to La Veta on Thursday. It will open Southern Peaks League play on Jan. 23 as it will play at fourth-ranked Center.
