MONTE VISTA — Friday night was a Farmer face-off with Hoehne getting the better of Sargent in a fast paced 30-27 game. Last time these two teams met it was in another one possession game that saw Sargent come away with a 26-24 victory. Just like this year Sargent didn’t start putting up most of their points until the second half falling behind 16-8 in the first half to surge back 18-8 in the second half.
This year however Sargent couldn’t muster a similar come from behind victory.
Hoehne got things started with a 60-yard run that put them in position to punch it in from the 1 and converted on the two point try to go up by 8 points. The following kickoff would go out of bounds giving Sargent the ball at the 35. Ryan Davis would rollout after double clutching the pass and find Trevor Milne on a 38-yard connection taking Sargent to the 2, where Milne would slam it in to make the score 8-7.
Davis would go on to accrue 293 yards from scrimmage and 1 passing touchdown while Milne would close his day with 135 yards from scrimmage with a rushing and a receiving touchdown.
Hoehne then went on a 16-point run off two rushing touchdowns of over 60 yards each to make it a 17-point game. Sargent would get three more in the third quarter from Cosme Cordova, Eddy Gonzales and Trevor Milne but Hoehne’s final touchdown in that same quarter put victory just out of reach for a final score of 30-27.
With the loss Sargent keeps their ranking of number four while Hoehne gained a spot going to number 2. Both teams are chasing Sedgwick County who currently sits at number 1.
Sargent will go on the road to face Caliche (1-1) on Saturday Sept. 9 at 1 p.m.
