Film Festival set for Thursday, Dec. 12

SAN LUIS VALLEY — The San Juan Nordic Club is holding its annual Ski and Gear Swap on Dec. 7 at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center as a fundraiser to repair and replace its ski trail grooming equipment. 

From skis to camping gear, clothes, and biking equipment, there's something for everyone. The event will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Alamosa Family Recreation Center. 

“We also encourage you to donate lightly used equipment for sale or register your personal items for sale on Friday, Dec. 6, from 1 to 5 p.m. or on Saturday from 9 to 10 a.m.,” club officials stated. 

The club's mission is to provide groomed and ungroomed winter trails for non-motorized use by people of all ages and abilities and to provide winter recreation, education, and community-building experiences. 

The San Juan Nordic Club grooms cross-country skiing trails at Monte Vista Golf Course, Rock Creek, and Big Meadows.

Get ready for an exciting evening at the Winter Wildlands Alliance Backcountry Film Festival on Thursday, Dec. 12. The event will be hosted at Trade and Post, 578 Grande Ave., Del Norte. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the films start at 6:30 p.m. 

Cost is $15 for San Juan Nordic Club members and $20 for non-members. When you purchase your film festival tickets, you can go to our membership page and purchase/renew your membership.  

Drinks will be available at the Trade and Post. The Nordic Club encourages you to enjoy dinner in Del Norte before the show. Winter Wildlands Alliance Information and San Juan Nordic Club Memberships will be available for sale. Drinks will be available for purchase. 

The film, "A Line in the Snow," will be shown. This winter film follows professional Arctic explorer Annie Aggens and her two daughters on a dog sledding winter camping trip in the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. The group learns valuable life and wilderness skills powered only by their own two feet and a team of four-legged friends.
