Randall “Randy” James Maez, 64, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Center, Colo., on Nov. 13, 2024. He was born on Sept. 19, 1960, to Robert and Loyda (Garcia) Maez in Monte Vista, Colo.
His love of the hunt, wild spaces, a football field, the basketball court or a dry dusty rodeo arena was only rivaled by his love of his family; for whom he would do anything for. Randy married the love of his life Wendi April (Anderson) Maez in July of 1982 and together they built a life of 42 years full of love, kindness, and commitment.
For over 20 years, Randy spent his days dedicated to the San Luis Valley Irrigation District as a ditch rider. The remainder of his time was spent on the basketball court, wrestling mat, football field, rodeo arena, or in the hills with his family. He loved teaching the joys of hunting, fishing and how to be a steward of nature. He was a father and grandfather whose love knew no bounds and was unmatched for Dustin and Tanaye Maez, Kyle and Jenny Maez and grandchildren; Kasen James, Bexen Kru, Preslee Quinn, and Tenzie Brielle. And we can’t forget his beloved dog, Rooster.
Randy fostered enduring friendships and a reputation built on hard work and reliability. Those who had the privilege of knowing Randy remember a man who loved the outdoors. A man who would drive the “ole” cab over down Poncha Pass, slowly stroll down the road in “the little pickup”, to see what was going on in his tattered shirt and shit eating grin. He was a man who knew no stranger.
Randy is survived by Bobby Maez, Darrel and Kaye Maez, Shelly and Randy Lopez, Pam and Tim Williams, and Jim Jones. His nieces and nephews Robbie Maez, Crystal Richardson, Greg Maez, Shawnee Munoz, Carlos Lopez, Angel Maez.
He was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Loyda Maez, his parents-in-law Ed and Shirley Anderson, and his nephew Tieler Jones.
A Memorial Service will be held in his honor on Friday, Nov. 22, 2024, at 11 a.m., at the High Valley Mennonite Church, 45651 Co Rd E, Center CO.
