Lifetime Sanford resident Quinten Reese Crowther, 101, passed away peacefully in Alamosa, Colo., on Jan. 9, 2025. Quinten was born March 29, 1923, in Sanford, Colo., to Alma LeRoy and Sarah Ivy “Iva” Brothers Crowther, the fourth of eight children. He was married and sealed for time and all eternity to Thelma Ruth Rindlisbacher, in the Idaho Falls, Idaho Temple on June 12, 1946.
Quinten was born and raised in Sanford, Colo. His dad passed away on Quinten’s 12th birthday leaving a large family, during the depression. He learned responsibility at an early age, how to work hard, take care of family and make things last.
In his early married life, he farmed and was an accomplished plasterer. He plastered many buildings in the area including work on the Sanford LDS church. He was later employed by the Sanford Public School. He was a dedicated employee and retired from there after 24 years.
He was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints where his service and love for others was shown.
He enjoyed spending hours working in his yard and large garden where he had some of the best raspberries. He loved spending time hunting, fishing and gathering wood. He always looked for reasons to go to the mountains with his kids and grandkids. He even visited elk camp at age 99. He shared many stories with his family how he spent time in the mountains. This love of the outdoors has been passed on to his children and grandchildren.
Above all else, he was a steadfast patriarch of his family with a love for each member. His legacy will forever live on in their hearts.
Quinten is survived by his children Bruce (Susan) Crowther of Colorado Springs, Colo., Glade (Pamelyn) Crowther of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Lenore (David) Hoover of Springville, Utah, Layne (Marilyn) of Littleton, Colo., 10 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild, his sister Delora Fox of Idaho Falls, Idaho, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, his parents, five brothers, Elwin, Merril, Willard, Everet, and Norman, as well as his sister Clella Shawcroft.
Visitation will be held from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2025, with a funeral service at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Sanford 1st Ward, 775 Main St., Sanford, CO 81151. Burial will follow the services at the Sanford Cemetery.
