Monte Vista resident Preciliano E. Velasquez, 94, was called home on Nov. 14, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. Preciliano was welcomed into the world on Oct. 8, 1930, to the late Jose M. Velasquez and Marita Valdez Velasquez. 

Preciliano joined the United States Army where he served for 5 years. He was then united in marriage to Cordelia Martinez. Preciliano was self-employed and worked as a roofer. He enjoyed being outdoors where he loved fishing, and hunting. Preciliano also enjoyed traveling and going gambling in his spare time. He loved spending time with his loving family who meant the world to him. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. 

His legacy will live on through his children; Anita (Joe) Mondragon of Monte Vista, Colo., Rita (John) Gasper of Monte Vista, Colo., Josephine (Wayne) Lopez of Alamosa, Colo., Pressie Velasquez of Rye, Colo., Frances Velasquez of Rye, Colo., Steve Velasquez of Salt Lake City, Utah, Martin (Chelsea) Velasquez of Monte Vista, Colo., Ernie Velasquez Jr. of Pueblo, Colo., son-in-law Randy Duran of Monte Vista, Colo., as well as his grandchildren; Randy, Jesus, Mario, Brandon, Kathy, Mariah/Michael-caretakers, Rocky, Ruby-Jo, Lucinda, Nefeteri, Hunter, Gianna, Liam, Evangeline, 12 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren, sister Candi (Jim) Maes, brother Art Valesquez, sister-in-law Kay Velasquez as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. 

Preciliano was preceded in death by his wife Cordelia Velasquez, parents Jose M. and Marita Valdez Velasquez, son Jesusito Velasquez, daughter Theresa Duran, and numerus brothers and sisters. 

Services for Preciliano will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2024, with the Vigil with recitation of the Rosary at 6 p.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church, Monte Vista. With the Mass of the Resurrection on Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024, at 10 a.m. also at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Monte Vista. Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at the San Luis Valley Cemetery, Monte Vista, Colo. Reception to follow burial service at Eduardo's Mexican Grill.
