Polito A. Lopez, a Romeo resident, 89, born Aug. 2, 1935, in Santa Rita, N.M. passed on April 14, 2025, in Denver, Colo., with his loving daughter at his bedside. 

Dad was born in what we might say was a difficult/hard time. The family’s main food source was grown or traded, hardly anything was store bought. The family raised sheep, which was the main source of meat, no wonder most of us love lamb.  

The family moved from Santa Rita, N.M., to San Miguel, N.M. and then to Ortiz, Colo. Dad and Mom - Estrella Casias - Lopez were united in Marriage on Oct. 4,1958, in Antonito, Colo. In 1967, they purchased their one and only home in Romeo, where they raised their family. 

Polito is survived by estranged wife Estrella Lopez, Denver, Colo., sons: Robert Lopez, Lobatos, Colo.., Andrew Lopez, Romeo, Colo., Donald Lopez, Romeo, Colo., Anthony Lopez, Denver, Colo., daughter Loraine (David) Alarid, Lakewood, Colo., sisters: Hermosa Martinez, San Antonio, Colo., Julia Rendon, Sanford, Colo., Erlinda Olson. Albuquerque, N.M., brothers: Gaspar Lopez, La Jara, Colo., James (Carla) Lopez, Sanford, Colo., 20 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Polito was preceded in death by his parents Victor and Talpita Lopez, sister Adelia Salas, brother Willie Lopez, sons Ricky and David Lopez and 4 great-grandchildren, brother-in-law Claudio Martinez, Don Olson, Joe Rendon, Frank Salas, sister-in-law Juanita Lopez, and Virginia Lopez. 

There will be a viewing on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, from 6 p.m. with Recitation of the Rosary to follow at 7 p.m. at Romero Valley Funeral Home Chapel in Antonito, Colo. The Mass of Resurrection will be on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, at 11 a.m. Inurnment will be held at a later date.
