The annual Alamosa 18U Tournament came to an end Saturday at Ortega Middle School. The games on Saturday included Alamosa defeating Center 19-1 for fifth place, Monte Vista defeating the Alamosa JV team 10-0 for third place, and Lamar crushing Bayfield 16-0 in the championship game.

ALAMOSA – The annual Alamosa 18U Tournament came to an end Saturday at Ortega Middle School.
The games on Saturday included Alamosa defeating Center 19-1 for fifth place, Monte Vista defeating the Alamosa JV team 10-0 for third place, and Lamar crushing Bayfield 16-0 in the championship game.
Alamosa 19, Center 1
The Vikings were the visitors on the scoreboard and they scored their only run in the top of the first inning. Jadon Martinez was hit by a pitch, Caden Ruggles drew a walk, and Ivan Guadarma was also hit by a pitch to load the bases with one out. Martinez then stole home to give Center its only lead of the game.
The lead did not last long as the Mean Moose scored eight runs in their half of the first.
Carlos Garcia and Nelson Arambula both reached on fielder’s choices, and Garcia came around to score on a wild pitch. Arambula scored on a passed ball to give Alamosa a 2-1 lead.
Jonah Pittman and Jo David drew walks, with Pittman stealing home, and David scoring on a wild pitch.
A.J. Baker struck out, but the ball got past the Center catcher and Baker was safe on first. Ryan Higareda and Jaidyn Burciaga both walked. Baker came home on a passed ball, and Higareda and Burciaga both scored on the same wild pitch.
Josh Gonzales was hit by a pitch and went to third on a wild pitch. He scored on Tony Griego’s double.
The Mean Moose put the game of ice with 11 runs in the second. Garcia led off with a walk, and Arambula was hit by a pitch. Garcia stole third and scored on Pittman’s groundout.
David walked and Baker reached on an error to bring home Arambula. Higareda walked to fill the sacks, and Burciaga singled to plate David and Baker. Gonzales singled home Higareda, and Griego singled to score Burciaga.
Xavier Lujan reached on an error, and Arambula singled home Gonzales and Griego. Pittman’s single plated Garcia. Arambula scored on an error, and David singled home Pittman to wrap up the scoring.
The game ended after three innings on the 12-run rule.
Griego started on the mound for Alamosa and he threw a no-hitter. He allowed only one run, and he struck out four, walked one and hit two batters.
Nickolas Palma started for Center and he took the loss. He allowed eight runs and two hits and he struck out one, walked five and hit one batter. Ruggles relieved Palma in the second and he gave up five runs and no hits and he had no strikeouts and three walks. Martinez finished the game and he surrendered six runs and seven hits and he struck out none, and walked none.
Alamosa had nine hits and was led by Griego who went 2-2 with a double and two RBIs.
Monte Vista 10, Alamosa JV 0
The Pirates were the visiting team and they took off to an early lead with four runs in the top of the first inning. The added six more runs in the second.
The game ended after four innings on the 10-run rule.
Kobe Jiron and Jakoby Ross combined for a two-hit shutout.
Camden Montoya went the distance to the Alamosa JV and he struck out three and walked five.
The Mean Moose’s hits were collected by Montoya and Alex Vailpando.
Statistics for Monte Vista were unavailable.
Lamar 16, Bayfield 0
The Thunder scored three runs in the first, third and fourth innings. They broke the game open by scoring seven runs on the fifth.
The game ended after five innings on the eight-run rule.
Lamar pitchers Ryker Ratcliff and Alex Aguilar combined to throw a one-hit shutout.
